Fort Larimie

Over a 45 year period, 150,000 covered wagons passed through here on the Oregon Trail.
The cavalry barracks with the original fittings!

The buildings are fitted out like Sovereign Hill, but with mostly original furnishings.  In the summer, the fort is peopled with costumed volunteers and you can enter all the rooms.

The wagons crossed this river to enter Fort Larimie where they were safe from Indians and could purchase supplies.

Laurie, on the right, told us heaps of stories and showed us inside the post office and general store.  We wished he'd given us the whole tour instead of the self-guided audio tour!  Thanks Laurie.
